When Navim was enrolled in Kumon at the age of 6, she admits she wasn’t very good at maths and didn’t really know what Kumon was. Now just four years later, Navim is able to solve confidently solve Year 13 calculus problems.
“I didn’t really know what Kumon was about at the start but one year after I started, when I was 7 years old, I started to pick up the pace. It was like I knew what I was doing and I started to understand why I was doing Kumon, that it wasn’t just for my mum but I was doing it for my own benefit because I could see that I was way above average at school. I made a big jump in my test scores and I knew that was all thanks to Kumon,” Navim said.
Throughout her time in Kumon, Navim was supported by her parents. “My mum she helped me make my goals and she also helped me accomplish them too. She gave me good advice like practice makes perfect and trying you’re hardest. They sound simple now but they were important to me then,” Navim said.
At school, Navim’s class is learning algebra, a topic she mastered at Kumon when she was in Year 3. “My friends always come up to me for help and it feels good to help someone in need. Helping people is basically my whole goal in life and one day, I would like to make a cure for cancer,” she said.
Navim is now looking forward to applying her advanced learning in high school. “The more advanced I got, the more I started to think about how high school will be easier for me. Everyone knows that high school is hard but just having one subject that is easy can help so much,” she said.
Navim’s next goal is finish the Kumon English Programme. In her free time, she enjoys playing cricket and learning the guitar.
