At just nine years old, Year 6 student Zachary is already building strong learning habits and a confident approach to problem-solving through Kumon.
Zachary began Kumon when he was six years old and in Year 2. Since then, his studies have helped him stay ahead in maths and supported his progress across many of his school subjects.
One of Zachary’s proudest achievements has been reaching a level five years ahead of his school grade. This milestone reflects not only his academic progress, but also the consistency and determination he has shown throughout his Kumon journey.
At school, Zachary says Kumon has helped him in maths and has also supported him in staying ahead of the rest of the class. Beyond academic performance, he believes Kumon has helped him develop self-discipline and the ability to self-manage when work becomes more challenging.
“What motivates me is I really want to stay ahead in maths,” Zachary says. “I really want to complete the programme because … I would become better at maths.”
This strong sense of purpose shows how Zachary is already thinking beyond short-term results and focusing on what his learning can help him achieve in the future.
Behind Zachary’s progress is a strong support system. He shares that his Kumon centre has always been there to support him when he feels stuck, while his parents make sure he completes his homework each day and encourage him when he needs help. This combination of guidance and encouragement has helped him stay focused and keep moving forward.
Outside of school and Kumon, Zachary enjoys an active and balanced lifestyle. He takes part in sports such as rugby, cricket and swimming, and also values spending time with his family.
Zachary also recognises the benefits of Kumon beyond the classroom. He says it has helped him become more responsible, more self-managing and better able to think carefully through challenges. He also feels that Kumon has taught him to stay calm and work through challenging situations without becoming overwhelmed.
Looking ahead, Zachary has clear ambitions for the future. He hopes to become an orthopaedic surgeon when he grows up. He is confident that his current learning in Kumon will continue to help him throughout the future.
“Kumon will help me break down difficult problems into smaller problems so that I can solve it easily,” Zachary says. “It will also help me to not struggle and stay calm when things get tough.”
